My new blog domain is up:
http://intrepidgirlreporter.wordpress.com.
I would rather, of course, stick with my own name (I WOULD, Wilson), but I understand the Program’s concern re: public blogs, our affiliation therewith. I’ll be keeping this up for archival purposes, at least for now, but please direct all attention to the new blog. I swear, it will be just like this one, except without my name and everything. Kthx.
My choir boys are tone-deaf. Stone-cold tone-deaf. We finally got the rhythm down for the first part of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” but it doesn’t exactly sound like anything, yet.
Also, my students are terrible at playing hangman. Why on earth would anyone use Q for their first guess? Q?
I’ve switched the Patbingsu Song punishment – now they have to dance to “When Doves Cry.”

Apparently “dog baby” is Konglish for “son of a bitch.”

I have a lot of adventures to discuss, including but not limited to:
- Korean haircut
- “camping”
- drinking games with Korean teachers
- the speech I gave ALL BY MYSELF
- Spam
HOWEVER. I have a 한국오 (Korean language) final on Wednesday, I’m helping to organize an unofficial event that is totally not called the Beer Olympics, and I think I might be getting sick. So I might post before Wednesday, or it might be after. Love me anyway.

I would post the link, but it does something weird when I do, so just go click the sidebar.

I really wanted to write something funny about the zine pages the kids in my class made today. But somehow I ended up, with Stacey, sitting in a diner filled with spiders, practicing a speech in Korean that will never sound natural. When I found a hair in my bibimbap the woman went out, in the rain, to buy us chips and beer from the convenience store down the street. Stacey’s room flooded today. I have a lot of letters I haven’t finished.
That was the year…when I was discovering that not all of the promises would be kept, that some things are in fact irrevocable and that it had counted after all, every evasion and every procrastination, every mistake, every word, all of it.
– Joan Didion, “Goodbye to All That”
Maybe not yet.

Korean boys all seem to dress either like b-boys or male models. Most of them look like Tetsuya Tashiro, actually. So tonight when we had our Mixer (that’s correct) with the KEY Club, or Korean English something Club, I naturally gravitated towards this guy with tight jeans and a sort of helmet mullet. He was wearing this shirt with a picture of the band Travis and it had the lyrics to “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” on it, so I went up to him and told him that I liked both the song and the shirt. As it turned out, he had bought the shirt because he liked the picture. He had no idea who Travis was.
I want to write more but I am about to fall asleep at my computer. More soon.
